Boo Dating App Review 2026: What 2.68 Million Ratings and 6 Country Datasets Show
Boo is a legitimate, genuinely large dating app: it holds a 4.0-star Google Play rating from 2,680,000 reviews, and only 6.5% of those reviewers left one star — the lowest one-star share of any app in the DateAtlas dataset with more than a million reviews. Whether it is right for you is a narrower question. DateAtlas tracks Boo in 6 of our 30 countries, where its usage score averages 5.8/10 against Tinder's 8.5/10 across all 30 — so the app is well-liked, but the pool is thinner and much younger than the mainstream swipe apps.

What 2.68 million Play Store ratings actually say
Most dating apps are rated in a U-shape: a big block of five stars from people who matched, and a big block of one stars from people who did not. Boo does not look like that.
| Stars | Share of Boo's reviews | |---|---| | 5 | 46.2% | | 4 | 25.3% | | 3 | 17.7% | | 2 | 4.4% | | 1 | 6.5% |
Two things stand out. First, the 6.5% one-star share is remarkable at this volume. Among the apps in our dataset with over a million Play reviews, the comparable figures are Badoo 15.4%, Bumble 16.8%, Lovoo 18.0%, Tinder 19.9%, POF 21.0% and Happn 31.7%. Boo is rated by an audience that is roughly three times less likely to be furious than Tinder's.
Second — and this is the less flattering reading — Boo has the highest three-star share of any app in our ratings table at 17.7%. Nothing else comes close; POF is second at 13.3%. Combine that with a 4+5 star share of 71.5% and you get the profile of an app people find pleasant and rarely hate, but which a large minority find merely fine. That matches what the app is: a personality-and-social product where a lot of users are there for the compatibility game and the feed rather than to find a partner, so there is less at stake in the rating either way.
One important caveat before anyone quotes these numbers back at us: Google Play listings are global. There is no such thing as a per-country Boo rating in our data, and we do not publish one. What varies by country in our dataset is usage, safety and price.
Where Boo actually has users
DateAtlas records Boo in six countries. That is a deliberate scoping decision, not a claim that Boo is unavailable elsewhere — we add an app to a country only when we judge it has real local traction.
| Country | Usage (0–10) | Safety (0–10) | Premium / month | |---|---|---|---| | United States | 7 | 7 | $6.99 | | Philippines | 7 | 7 | $12.99 | | Indonesia | 6 | 7 | $9.99 | | Malaysia | 5 | 7 | $9.99 | | Poland | 5 | 7 | $8.99 | | Vietnam | 5 | 7 | $9.99 |
For scale: in the United States our usage scores put Boo at 7/10, level with OkCupid and BLK, behind Tinder (10), Hinge (9) and Bumble (8). It is a real option in the US, not a top-three one. In the Philippines it also scores 7/10, tied with Badoo and PinaLove and behind Tinder (9), FilipinoCupid (8) and OkCupid (8).
The shape of the list tells you the demographic story better than any of our individual scores: Southeast Asia plus the US plus Poland, all markets where our country notes flag Boo as trending with Gen Z and boosted heavily on TikTok. If you are over 30 and looking for people your own age, this is the wrong app in almost every country we track.
Pricing: the same app, 1.9× the price
Boo has a usable free tier — we record no entry fee for it in any tracked country — and a paid upgrade on top. The upgrade price is not the same everywhere:
- Median across the six countries: $9.99/month
- Cheapest: $6.99 in the United States
- Most expensive: $12.99 in the Philippines
- Spread: 1.9× for the same product
The Philippines figure is the one worth pausing on, because it is the third-cheapest of our 30 countries by average date cost — $33 there against $125 in the United States. So Boo Premium in Manila costs almost twice what it costs in New York, in a market where a whole date costs a quarter as much. Local price sensitivity is not being priced in.
Two honesty notes. These are DateAtlas measurements of local premium pricing, not publisher list prices; store promotions, currency moves and regional experiments will shift them. And they are a snapshot from our April 2026 content review.
Is Boo safe?
We score Boo 7/10 for safety in every one of the six countries we track it in. On our scale 8+ is relatively high and below 4 warrants extra caution, so 7 means "above average, not exemplary" — and it is an editorial estimate, not a measurement. Our feature data records profile verification, in-app video calls and LGBTQ+ support as all present, which is the combination we like to see: you can verify a match and see their face before you go anywhere.
The honest caveat is moderation at scale. An app with 10M+ downloads and a young user base carries the usual load of catfishing and underage-account complaints in its store reviews, and our editorial assessment flags moderation consistency as a genuine weakness. Use the video call. Meet in public. Do not move to a private chat app before you have.
Who Boo is for — and who should skip it
Good fit if: you are in your late teens or twenties, you actively want the friendship and community side as much as dating, and you enjoy the personality-typing frame as a conversation starter. Boo is one of very few apps that treats friendship-seeking as a first-class use case rather than a bolt-on, and the free tier genuinely lets you browse and match.
Skip it if: you are over 30, you want a large local pool, or you want matching you can reason about. Our own assessment is blunt here: the MBTI-style typing that the whole product rests on is self-reported and not scientifically rigorous, the compatibility percentages are entertainment rather than signal, and heavy users quickly notice that visibility tracks activity more than compatibility. The free tier is also throttled hard — unlimited messaging and visibility live behind the paywall, and the ad load is heavy.
Frequently asked questions
Is Boo a legit dating app?
Yes. Boo is a real app rather than a scam front: 4.0 stars from 2,680,000 Google Play reviews, 10M+ downloads, and profile verification plus video calling both supported. DateAtlas scores it 7/10 for safety in all six countries we track it in. The caveats are moderation consistency and a heavy paywall, not legitimacy.
How much does Boo cost?
Boo has a free tier with no entry fee in any country we track. The paid upgrade had a median local price of $9.99 per month across the six countries DateAtlas measured, ranging from $6.99 in the United States to $12.99 in the Philippines. Those are our measurements of local pricing, not official list prices.
Is Boo better than Tinder?
Not on reach. Tinder averages 8.5/10 on our usage score across all 30 countries; Boo averages 5.8/10 across the six countries we track it in. Boo is better rated by its own users (4.0 stars with 6.5% one-star, against Tinder's 3.8 with 19.9% one-star), and it is better if you want a friendship-and-community product. For sheer number of people to match with in a given city, Tinder wins in every country we cover.
What countries does DateAtlas track Boo in?
Six: the United States, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland and Vietnam. Its strongest usage scores in our data are the US and the Philippines, both 7/10.
Does Boo need a local SIM card?
Not in any country we track. Our needs_local_sim flag is false for all six Boo rows, so a foreign number should work for signup — unlike some local-market apps in our dataset that do require a domestic number.
