About DateAtlas

Our Mission

DateAtlas exists to replace guesswork with data. Whether you are a solo traveler downloading Tinder in a new country, a digital nomad comparing dating cultures, or an expat trying to understand local norms — you deserve real information, not Reddit anecdotes.

We aggregate data from public sources — Numbeo, the EF English Proficiency Index, the Google Play Store, the CIA World Factbook, and Our World in Data's LGBT+ Rights Index — and transform it into actionable dating intelligence for 30 countries. Safety scores, app rankings, cost indices, English proficiency, LGBTQ+ acceptance, and cultural openness: all in one place. Each source, its vintage, and its limitations are listed on our methodology page.

Who Writes DateAtlas

DateAtlas research is published under the byline Vicky from DateAtlas. Vicky is our editorial identity — the name on our research, our newsletter, and our corrections — not a claim about a credentialed expert. We are a very small independent team, and we would rather tell you that plainly than invent a résumé.

What that means in practice: nothing on this site rests on “trust the author.” Every score traces back to a named public dataset, every formula and weight is published, every estimate is labelled as an estimate, and every source carries its real vintage — including the ones that are older than we would like. That is the evidence we ask you to judge us on.

The data: the underlying figures are downloadable from our dataset page, so you can check our arithmetic.
The method: sources, weights, freshness and limitations are on the methodology page.
The corrections: if a number is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say what changed.

Editorial independence: our scores are not for sale. No app, company, or country pays for placement, and any affiliate or commercial relationship is disclosed at or near the link it applies to — see our disclaimer.

Why We Built This

The idea for DateAtlas came from firsthand experience. After traveling to over a dozen countries and realizing that "which dating app works here?" and "is it safe to date here?" were questions every traveler asked but nobody answered with data, we decided to build the resource we wished existed.

Existing dating sites focus on one country. Travel sites focus on hotels and flights. Nobody was combining dating data with travel intelligence. DateAtlas fills that gap.
