Belgium is really two dating markets stitched together by a language border, and it shows in the apps people open. In Dutch-speaking Flanders — Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges — the big international apps still rule, but you'll also see Lovoo punch above its weight thanks to the cultural and linguistic pull of neighbouring Germany and the Netherlands. In French-speaking Wallonia, Meetic carries far more weight than it does up north, and serious-relationship framing tends to land better than pure swipe culture. Tinder is the common denominator everywhere; which 'number two' app you reach for is often decided by the language you match in.

Brussels is the exception that proves the rule. As the de facto EU capital it pulls in a large, transient pool of expats, diplomats, lobbyists and young professionals, and the dating scene reflects that international churn. Here the apps skew toward Bumble, OkCupid, Inner Circle and Feeld — platforms that index well with English-speaking, career-minded and curious daters — and bilingual or English-only profiles are completely normal. With EF English Proficiency rated 'High', most people you match with across the country can comfortably switch to English, so the language question is more about etiquette than ability.

On the whole we'd describe Belgian dating as casual, egalitarian and refreshingly low-drama: women making the first move is unremarkable, online dating carries little stigma, and there's no rigid courtship script to follow.
